How Two Committed Conservationists Revitalized a River With Beer
Sinagua Malt, Arizona’s first malt house and a Certified B Corp public benefit corporation, works by incentivizing farmers to transition from water-intensive summer crops such as corn and alfalfa to barley, by providing them with a stable market and offering local breweries and distilleries the opportunity to use locally sourced malt. Barley acreage has grown from 95 acres in 2016 to more than 610 acres today, and the malthouse itself has scaled from 150 tons to 1,700 tons of production per year.
